Although primarily a remote company, Bridges Bookkeeping is based in Portland, Oregon. We hear names in and around this city everyday like Clackamas, Kathlamet, Multnomah, Chinuk and Tualatin- and these are only a few. According to “Leading With Tradition: Native American Community in the Portland Metropolitan Area” published by Portland’s Native American Community Advisory Council “The Portland urban Native community is descended from over 380 tribes,” and included over 70,000 people as of 2010. We stand, live, work and play on the lands their ancestors respected and protected for over 11,00 years. We consume and often pollute the sacred natural resources they and their ancestors try to protect. A history of greed and willful ignorance built the City of Roses as is true for most of the industrialized world. It is up to each of us to repair the damage and heal the land we now share to uplift the community as a whole. We cannot continue to look the other way as colonialism as usual marches on. It is long past time to heed the wisdom of the elders who were displaced forcefully by disease, treaty, legislation and corruption.
